This means you’ll have a job with an employer and be a working member of their team, whilst continuing to develop skills essential to your job and personal development. Alongside your job, you'll spend time here at Northumberland Skills where you’ll benefit from a tailored programme of training to complement your job role and boost your skills and confidence.

Our apprenticeship team provides new and existing apprentices with the guidance and support they need to make informed decisions about their future training.

Our team is ready to support with one-to-one advice about next steps, apprenticeship standard choices, completing an application, or accessing other pastoral support around transport, finance or personal concerns.

 

We're here on then phone or by sending an email, Monday to Friday, to answer questions and offer support.​

Our dedicated team offers a range of services designed to support you every step of the way:

We support our apprentices throughout their studies by offering a blend of classroom-based and practical experience, as well as personalised guidance:

  1. Structured learning
    We deliver the formal education component of an apprenticeship. This includes classroom-based instruction, online learning, and hands-on practical training tailored to the apprentice's industry.
     

  2. Personalised support
    Apprentices receive individual guidance from our trainers and assessors who help to develop the skills and knowledge they need. This support includes one-on-one mentoring and regular check-ins to track progress.
     

  3. Assessment and feedback
    We assess apprentices' progress through regular assignments, practical tasks and exams. We provide constructive feedback to help apprentices to improve and achieve their learning goals.
     

  4. Workplace integration
    We work closely with employers to ensure that on-the-job training aligns with our educational curriculum. We help apprentices apply their classroom learning to real-world situations.
     

  5. Pastoral care
    We offer additional support services to assist with personal challenges that may impact an apprentice's studies.
     

  6. Career guidance
    We assist apprentices in planning their career paths, offering advice on future job opportunities, further education, or additional qualifications that can enhance their employability.
     

  7. Learning resources
    We supply apprentices with learning materials, online resources and industry-specific tools that are essential for their studies and professional development
     

  8. Certification and progression
    Upon completion of the apprenticeship, we help apprentices to transition into full-time roles or further study.

We work in partnership with employers to ensure that the training meets industry standards and that apprentices are gaining the skills needed by the business, and support employers throughout the apprenticeship process. 
 

Recruitment and selection
  • We help employers craft effective job descriptions and specifications for apprenticeship roles

  • We assist in finding and screening suitable candidates

 

Training and development​

  • We develop and tailor training programs that meet industry standards and the specific needs of the employer

  • We deliver the training, which can be on-site, off-site, or a combination of both, ensuring apprentices gain the necessary skills and knowledge

 

Support with compliance

  • We ensure that the apprenticeship programme adheres to national standards and regulatory requirements

  • We assist with navigating apprenticeship funding, including helping employers understand and apply for available incentives or subsidies
     

Ongoing monitoring and assessment

  • We conduct regular assessments and reviews of the apprentices’ progress to ensure they meet the required standards

  • We offer feedback to both apprentices and employers, addressing any issues that arise and making adjustments as needed
     

Mentoring and guidance

  • We offer advice and support to employers on best practices for mentoring and managing apprentices

  • We supply resources, tools, and materials needed for effective training and development
     

Evaluation and improvement

  • We help evaluate the effectiveness of the apprenticeship programme and suggest improvements

Administrative assistance

  • We manage the necessary administrative tasks, such as recording apprentices' progress and maintaining required documentation

  • We handle the process for certifying the apprentices upon successful completion of their training
